Monday 28th December - Manor Farm Open

 26 fishing.
I drew peg 18 island. Not an area that's had a lot of form but I was feeling optimistic.
Set up was simple.
 2 bomb rods
2 pole rigs!
Started off feeding my pole line and Chucked the bomb out towards the island. Didn't have a liner or any signs for 1 hour 30 despite looking on pole and foul hooking one first put in. Decided to chuck the bomb as tight to the island as possible as this can work well if they are there. After minutes of doing this the rod dropped back and an angry common was soon in the next. Next chuck had one about 15 lb!!!
By 2:00 I had 8 carp for about 45 - 50lb chucking tight to the island then it completely died. A quick look on the pole saw me have 4 F1s in the last hour.
I managed to weigh 56-6-0 for 7th overall and won my section. Really enjoyed this match despite not catching for nearly 2 hours!

Thursday 24 December 2015

Thursday 24th December - Manor Farm leisure open.

Today's open was on windmill pool, this has to be one of my favourite lakes as it's an awesome pole lake! There's one peg I love on here, 24! And yes... I drew it!!!
Last time I drew this I got to distracted to the island to my right and today I decided I wouldn't.
At the all in I fed my pole line and checked the bomb. 2nd chuck the tip dropped back and I was into my first fish. A 2 lb F1.
Decided to have a look on my pole line and was into to some bites. Pretty much stayed here all day.  Had a couple of tries on the island line but bites were slower and fish were a lot smaller.
Caught a mixture of original F1s and some small stockies.  Finished the match with 43 F1s and a mirror carp for 67-2-0. Putting me 1st overall!
Had a really nice days fishing with plenty of bites!

Wednesday 23rd December - Manor Farm Leisure Open.

I drew peg 23 island pool. Not an area I've done very well on recently.

Just set up a bomb rod and a few pellet rigs at 13m.
I had 1 fish by 1:30 and things were looking grim! Changed my feeding and then began putting a few fish together on the long pole fishing pellets.
By the all out I had 10 F1s and 3 carp
My 27-10-0 was 5th overall and just missed out on my section win.

Wednesday 23 December 2015

Harsecombe - 22nd December.

Harescombe Fishery knock up - Tuesday 22nd December.

I drew peg 5 on field lake. This is a lovely looking lake and I was really looking forward to get fishing. Kept the approach dead simple.
Pellets at 13m
Pellets short
Pellets down the edge! Simple!
Started off on the pole and had a carp about 2 lb 20 mins in. Had a couple of fish here then looked on the short line, first put in had a 6 lb carp! Then couldn't get a bite here so shipped an expander back out to 13m and caught 2 more in quick succession.  With 50 mins to go put a bit of bait 13m down the edge to my right. First put in had a proper fish on which I was gutted that I lost at the net, went straight back down there and hooked 2 more which I lost?!?!? Then hooked 3 and landed 3! Not big fish but still a decent stamp.
I finished with 14 carp for 41-0-0 putting me 2nd overall. 51-0-0 won the match.
Really enjoyed this match and was really nice to fish a different venue.

Sunday 20 December 2015

Saturday 19th December - Manor Farm leisure - Evesham Christmas match.
With 16 on island pool a good draw was needed and that didn't happen!  Peg 27 stuck to my hand, this peg occasionly has form but it's hit and miss and there's a lot better pegs on the lake. Kept the set up dead simple.
2 pole rigs - 13m
Waggler
Bomb.
Chucked the bomb and bread for the first 20 minutes and had a tiny liner and I was starting to worry. Began feeding my pole line and had a look on that without a bite! At 11 o'clock I hadn't had a fish. So decided to perceiver long and had 1 F1. At the half way stage I didn't even have 2 lb and the same was for most others, re fed the pole line then went back on it and caught well for 20 mins putting 8 F1s in the net before this then died. Picked up the waggler and had 3 more on that and rested the pole line till last 40 mins when  I hoped I'd catch well on it, which I did!
Ended the match with 14 F1s and a chunky common for 38-0-0. Putting me 2nd overall, enjoyable day none the less.

Sunday 20th December - Open at Harescombe Fishery Gloucester. 35 fished.
This is my first visit to the venue and didn't know where you wanted to draw, I saw myself heading towards peg 14 on the match lake. With 19 on this lake pegging was tight.
Kept the rigs dead simple
2 rigs for long.
1 for in open water.
Started off dobbing bread to just feel my way into the match. Had my first fish on this 15 mins in being a 3 lb chub! No more bites on this forced me to look elsewhere. Shipped across and rattled in some pellets via a cad pot and the float buried resulting in a 2 lb carp, this continued till I put 4 fish in the net before dieing.  Had a look in open water and couldn't get a bite so plumbed up another line and had another fish and had to keep moving. Towards the end of the match I made a decision to set up a maggot line to the right of the island and this saw me have a few more fish.
By the all out I had 18 fish for 21-0-0. Putting me 8th on my lake of 19.

Monday 14 December 2015

Sunday 13th December - Alders Farm Milton Keynes. Final round of winter league. Team Colmic!

I drew peg 31 on pines, next peg to where I was last round 2 weeks ago, right in the corner! With this in mind decided to fish it similar to last time with an out and out pole approach, as you only have about 18m of water until you enter next peg!

Started off short feeding and fishing pellets and foul hooked one first drop in that I lost. 20 minutes passed and I felt this line wasn't going to produce so shipped out to 13m again fishing a feeding pellets. I started of cad potting on this line but I felt it wasn't right so started pinging and had an instant response. The float buried and I was into my first fish.  A tench! Which wasn't a very good sign! After sorting out the feeding began to catch a few on this line and had to follow them out to 14.5m. Finished with 13 fish for 32-0-0. Putting me 5th in my section.
On the team front, Chris telling won his section and the match with 115-0-0  What a hero!
Glen Picton had 64 lb for 5th in section.
Frank Donachie had 40 lb for 5th in section.
Putting us 3rd
on the day and more importantly we finished 2nd overall! Happy with that!

Monday 7 December 2015

Manor farm open - Saturday 5th December. Peg 22 middle.
This is an area I've never done so well on but I was optimistic. The wind was awful whilst setting up so decided on a rod only approach... This soon changed after 40 mins in I had only 1 fish and then pole itus kicked in!
Kitted up the pole to fish 13m which I struggled but just about managed to do!  At the half way stage I had around 6 fish and Rich Merry next peg had 5. One of my fish being 8 lb+!

From this point everything dried up and couldn't get a bit anywhere and went 1 hour 30 without a fish. The wind got to bad to fish the pole to decided to under arm a bomb over it which picked me up a few more fish late on.
Had 12 fish at the all out and weighed 40-0-0 for a section win!
Early part of my match my pole line was solid but the winds cost me so many fish! I reckon I lost 10 fish!  Still an enjoyable day none the less! Roll on next weekend! Didn't go Sunday, a day of kit prep!

Wednesday 2 December 2015

Colmic F1 Spider Line:
For the past few months I've been using a new line, Colmic F1 Spider. With its awesome strength at such a low diameter I am totally amazed at this line and can seriously say that with its NXgen flurotec material It's defiantly upped my catch rate and had a big effect on my fishing, would seriously recommend it!

Saturday 28th November, I fished the open at manor farm and drew peg 6 middle pool. Started on the bomb and bread and without a bite soon switched to the pole at 13m. Foul hooked 3 fish on the bounce and was lucky to get one out. I soon then started to hook them properly after fishing an inch off the deck. Caught on and off all day to had 14 F1s and a carp to weigh 46-0-0 for second overall.

Sunday 29th November - Winter league at alders farm for colmic. I went on peg 1 on pines lake, right in the corner of the lake with only scope to fish the pole so that's the route I went down, started long at 13m and had 3 carp before the wind got to strong to fish it! Picked the odd fish up short and down to my left in the corner but had to keep moving and switching lines. Managed 35-0-0 for 4th in my section so was quite happy with that, really enjoyed the day despite the wind.

Monday 23 November 2015

Sunday 22nd November - Manor Farm open, peg 24 windmill (FLYER!!!) 17 fished.

Well where to start! This is a very good peg but has had no form of late so kept an open mind. There's an island to the right slightly easily reachable with 13-14.5m of pole so this was my main attack but kitted up some open water rigs to.

Started off dobbing bread first 10 minutes without a bite! So went into open water and started catching steadily, leaving my island line with the intention of it being solid late!

Had an instant response after going on the deck in open water but it started to fade after 1 hour 30 so had a look on the island and had 3 stockie F1s in as many put Ins then nothing!

Caught the  bulk of my fish at 13m in open water feeding and fishing pellets. Not sure about the island line??? It just didn't produce and fish were to small! At the all out I had around 27/28 fish for 37-4-0 for 5th in the match and a lake win by default so picked up some money.
It was a very strange day though, tried to catch a bigger stamp fish but didn't want to give it to much bait and didn't want to get to focused against the island.

Still really enjoyed the day and roll on next weekend!

Saturday 21 November 2015

Another awesome day today!

Saturday 21st November- Ash pool peg 20, 11 fished split over windmill and ash.
With a steep drop in temperature expected it to fish hard! Because the wind was so bad I couldn't fish the pole until 2:00 so fished the bomb and pellet, finally when the wind died at 2:00 I had 8 fish so had a look on the pole now I could present it! I then caught steadily on the pole at 13m on pellets to put a further 8 fish in the net taking me to 16 fish at the all out.
As the scales came round I was last to weigh and had heard Chris telling was winning overall off peg 12 ash with 34-00 so I thought I was somewhere near. I managed to tip the scales round to 45-00 resulting in a match win!

Overall really enjoyed the day with the middle part being a major struggle! Roll on manor again tomorrow!

Thursday 19 November 2015

Sorry! Bit late posting this blog!

Another awesome weekend for myself last weekend.
Saturday 14th November saw me fishing the open at manor farm leisure on boundary pool, I drew peg 32 and fished the pole most of the day and caught all my fish long on pellets to weigh 59-0-0 to win the match.

Sunday 15th November saw me fishing the first round of the winter league pairs on the river avon. I drew peg 35, a good peg which i was happy with, its a chub/waggler peg so with this in mind i only set up 2 rods as the wind was terrible for a nice positive approach! Ended the match with 5 chub and some bleak for 10-7-0 enough to win the match giving me 1 point.
Unfortunetly my partner up the common struggled meaning we're around 4th or 5th overall as it stands but all still to play for!

Roll on next weekend!

Tuesday 20 October 2015

Awesome weekend this weekend!!!

Saturday 17th October saw me at manor farm on the open. 14 anglers turned up so both lakes were in, Middle pool and Windmill pool. I really fancied drawing on windmill pool and thankfully I did! Peg 22 stuck to my hand.

This is down the far end of the lake in the deep water and I had a bit of room. Kept my approach very simple and only kitted up a few rigs.

Started at 13m on the deck where I caught really steadily all match and spent pretty much all day on. I did come short when my long line died but only had a great big F1 on it! At the all out I didnt really feel like Id done enough to win my lake as heard Chris Telling next peg had been catching.

I weighed in 79-0-0 which was first on my lake and put me 3rd overall with 84-0-0 coming off Middle pool. Really enjoyed the day and was looking forward to the next day.

Sunday 18th October saw me fishing a team of 4 match at Cob House fishery in Worcester. I was pegged on Laugherne Island Peg 10.  The lake has a series of 3 islands and I drew right in the middle of the middle island. Again I kept my approach very simple and just fished pellets on the pole.

For the first part of the match I struggled for only a few fish but eventually got my head down and caught a few fish long.
I finished the day with 74-0-0 which was 2nd on my lake. With only 78-0-0 winning I was annoyed as I lost around 5 carp.

I had heard that my other team members had done well and Jordan Holloway won his lake on wyatts with 115-0-0 amd Owen Robinson won his lake with 62-0-0 and Andy had struggled on his lake for around 6th. So with 2 firsts places and a second we won!!! Really happy with that as we came 4th last year but was nice to come back and win it!

All in all a very nice weekend which I thoroughly enjoyed!

Manor farm leisure open - Saturday 10th October - Windmill lake

Love this lake, always had a decent day when ive fished this lake. Not many turned up so I felt I would need 100lb+ to be anywhere in the frame. I drew peg 15, this is on one of the islands and is a good peg! So was very happy to be on it.

Kept the set up very simple and very for wmet for an out and out pole and pellet approach. The islands at 17m so with 16.5m I could just reach a stump to my left slightly.

Rig 1 - Pellet line across to the island.

Rig 2 - 13m deck rig in open water

Rig 3 - Shallow rig

And a few duplicates.

Started off to the island pinging pellets and in the first hour had around 10 f1s and 2 carp.
This then suddenly died and couldn't buy a bite there!

So went on the deck at 13m and continued putting some fish in the net. After a while on the deck I had been pinging pellets so went shallow and had a few more.

Throughout the day kept switching between each line to keep fish coming. And had a great big mirror that was 14lb!

At the weigh in 118 was winning and I weighed 105-0-0. Chris Telling next peg had 122-0-0 which put him first and I ended up 3rd.

Really enjoyed the day and I feel I should of gone on the deck earlier as this produced bigger fish.

Manor farm leisure open - Boundary Pool - Thursday 1'st October.

Not very often but today I booked the day off work to fish the open at Manor Farm. Had been looking forward to it all week.

At the draw I saw myself heading towards peg 38. Love this peg! The last 3 matches I've fished on here I've been lucky enough to draw this peg twice! Its an out and out pole peg so set my stall out on mainly fishing the pole.

Rigs were as followed:

13m Pellet line - 0.4 float to 0.15 - 0.11. 18 B911.

Identical rig but with a spade hook for fishing expander pellets in case it got hard.

A bomb, for if I really needed it.

I really set my mind on staying on the pole and hopefully catching on it most of the day. At the all in I fed 40 pellets through a big pot and then shipped out my rig with 10 pellets in the cad pot and lowered in my rig. Had 2 early F1s within the first five minutes and then couldn't get a bite.

As the day progressed starting pinging on the pole and in the first few hours only had a few fish so picked up my bomb rod and sat on that for an hour and a half and by 2;30 I had about 7 F1s and was off the pace.

I decided to big 3/4 of a pot of pellets in at 13m and go straight on it, this was a good idea as after 5 minutes of lifting and dropping the float slid under and I was attached to an angry rather large common! weighing around 8lb. After that I went back in and foul hooked an F1 so got me thinking. I increased the pinging of pellets and decided to fish shallow. By now we only had 45 minutes left so It was a brave decision. But the right one!

After 15 minutes of working hard, slapping, feeding, repeat I had my first fish and from then on I caught really well till the end.

On the clicker I had 16 fish. 14 F1s and 2 carp. I weighed in 52-0-0. This put me 4th out of the 13 that fished.

Round up: I felt my match could of gone better and if the wind would of stopped earlier I could of fished shallow earlier on in the day. Really enjoyed the day as always and learnt a lot.

Wednesday 30 September 2015

Fished Priory lake today in broad marston.

Caught well down the edge on dead maggots and weighed in 60-0-0 for 3rd overall. Felt my peg was worth a bit more but still enjoyed the day.

Saturday 26th September 2016

Alders Farm Open - Ash Lake

First time of ever going to this venue and was totally amazed at how lovely it is!
As the draw took place peg 29 stuck to my hand and I was soon at my peg, looking at the peg really fancied it for a few fish but all the pegs look awesome!
Decided to kit up a bit of everything as didn't really know what to expect, the rigs were as followed:

1. 5m Pole line - with the deepest part of my peg being 2ft I didn't need any heavy floats, this rig was a 4x12 float, 0.15 main to 0.13 hook length, to an 18 B911 for fishing a banded pellet.

2. 5m Pole line - this was an identical rig to above but a slightly bigger hook and a spade hook for fishing corn.

3. Margin - 4x10 float. 0.17 - 0.15 to a 16 B911. I decided to fish groundbait and dead reds as have a lot of confidence in this.

4. Shallow rig at 13m. 0.2 drennan crystal dibber. 0.17 - 0.15. 18 B911

5. Method feeder for under arming over my shallow line.

Started the match very negatively as this is a bagging venue and decided to not feed a lot to prevent any foul hookers. At the all in shipped out to 5m and sprinkled a full cad pot over the top of my rig, after a minute or two of lifting a dropping the float buried and landed my first fish. Blimey these fish fight hard in here!!! With the lake being spring fed the carp are wild! After the first hour I put around 15 carp in the net for around 20lb and felt I was slightly off the pace to other anglers.

Going into the second and third hour I really struggled, after not getting a bite on my short pole line and nothing down the edge I tried shallow. I had been pinging pellets since the start of the match and thought I needed to try it. After a few minutes of working hard I had a quick run of 3 fish shallow but it then soon died and just didn't feel right.

At around 2;30 I had 30 carp in the net and was well off the pace! As a back up I picked up my method rod and under armed it over where id been pinging all day. Its safe to say... this was as I expected! It was solid! The method didn't really hit the deck before going round! And in just over an hour put 22 carp in the net.

As the scales went round I knew I should of done a little better, I weighed in 117-0-0 for nowhere on the lake! Beat the angler to my right but got battered by my left!

Looking back I would of fished my match completely different. I felt I should of gone on the method earlier then primed my edge line till the last hour as a few anglers said they had near to 80lb in the last hour down the edge.

To round up I had a brilliant day and really looking forward to going back and seeing if what I know now makes a difference!
